Executive Director Evan Haigler leads the CEIHD team in developing carbon finance for improved biomass cooking stove projects in less-developed countries. He coauthored the Voluntary Gold Standard Methodology for Improved Cook-stoves and Kitchen Regimes, and worked as the lead project developer on the first Voluntary Gold Standard Cook-stove Project. Evan's research and publishing has focused on carbon methodology development and monitoring for improved stoves, and on assessing and valuing the associated social, health and environmental cobenefits. In collaboration with Dr. Kirk Smith, Evan recently published “Cobenefits of Climate Mitigation and Health Protection in Energy Systems: Scoping Methods” in the Annual Review of Public Health. Evan holds an MS in Environmental Health Sciences from UC, Berkeley and a BS in Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology from UC, Santa Cruz. Director of Business Development Matt Evans manages the validation and verification for the first Voluntary Gold Standard Cook-stove Project, and has worked on carbon offset project origination and development in Uganda, China, and Latin America. Matt has experience in carbon offset market development as the co-founder and Executive Director of carbon offset retailer LiveClimate.org. Matt has worked in developing country enterprise development with the Nonprofit Enterprise and Self Sustainability Team (NESST) in Santiago, Chile where he specialized in enterprise monitoring and strategy development. He has also worked in Product Management with the solar energy company SunPower and in social entrepreneurship with Ashoka: Innovators for the Public. Matt holds an MBA from UC Berkeley and a BA in Economics and International Relations from Stanford. China Monitoring and Evaluation SpecialistJimmy Tran is a PhD candidate in the College of Natural Resources at the University of California, Berkeley. His dissertation addresses critical barriers to the widespread adoption of improved household energy technologies in poor regions of western China. His research involves conducting rigorous field experiments, surveys, and market analyses to demonstrate quantifiable health, environmental, economic, and social “co-benefits” from large-scale dissemination of improved cookstoves. Jimmy holds BS degrees in Biology, Finance, and Environmental Resource Management from Pennsylvania State University. Uganda Business Development Manager Glen Mehn manages CEIHD's business operations on the ground in Uganda. He has entrepreneurial experience, having worked for five Bay Area start-ups as an employee and several more as a technical and strategic consultant, from Biotech to Burning Man. He holds a BA in Culture, Performance, and Design from the University of New Orleans and an MBA from Oxford University. While at Oxford, he founded the inaugural Oxford Summit on Business and the Environment, was a winner in the Idea Idol business plan competition, and was a finalist in the UCLA Global Leadership Competition. Social Impact Assessment Consultant David Kaisel has managed emergency medical programs in Angola, Colombia, and Brazil and coordinated commercial development of a novel point-of-care platform for rapid diagnosis of infectious diseases. After studying at Wesleyan University and ArtCenter College of Design, David received his B.A. in design from San José State University. He holds an MBA from the University of Washington and an MPH from the University of California, Berkeley. |
